16 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”
2 But Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me.”
The Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate.”
4 Samuel did what the Lord said. When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town trembled when they met him. They asked, “Do you come in peace?”
5 Samuel replied, “Yes, in peace; I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Consecrate yourselves and come to the sacrifice with me.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
6 When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.”
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The Lord has not chosen this one either.” 9 Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Nor has the Lord chosen this one.” 10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” 11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?”
“There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”
Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.”
12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. Samuel then went to Ramah.
Now two things I want you to make note of here in this passage of scripture:
1. First of all God said to Samuel " I have chosen "...
The bible says many are called, but few are chosen.
There is a difference in these two places in God.
2. The scripture says that Samuel anointed David in front of his brothers and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.
Now that day that David was anointed King of Israel, in the natural he went right back to the pasture where he was the shepherd and caretaker of his fathers sheep, but what happened that day was an impartation of preparation that would prepare David for his purpose and destiny, it was the most important time of David's obediance to God.
For you see your Preparation time is more important than your time of favor.
It was during this time that David found his strengths, and nurtured his faith and trust in God to use him.
He found it daily through the abundance of attacks on the small flock that was left in his care, and as he tells Saul in 1 Samuel chapter 17. I killed both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the Living God.
The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.
You see David's faith in what God can do was built in his time of preparation....You may look around you today and it may just look like your just an old shepherd boy stuck in the field tending your sheep.
Don't take for granted the fiery trials that come against you today, that lion and that bear that represents all of hell that is out to destroy all that represents God's promise to you, for it is in this time of your greatest testing that your unwaivering FAITH in God is bieng built, He is preparing you for your time of favor, your time of promise.
He is creating in you the ability to guard all He is going to place in your hands....if David had been afraid to fight for his sheep, when do you think God would have trusted him with the whole nation of Israel.
What is it that you are wanting God to trust you with in the future?
What have you done with what He has trusted you with already?
When you read the story of David, you will find that David was in no wise a perfect king, but David was an obedient king, many times he failed and God sent Samuel to reprimand him, and the one thing about David was that he always repented.
A Pastor spoke this recently, he said that God had spoke to him and said " God is not a respector of persons but He is a respector of obediance ".
See Saul lost the favor of God upon his life because of pride and disobedience, and can I tell you today that those are the two most deadly things that can destroy your anointing and your favor with God.
IF you don't receive one thing from this message,
I pray that you will hear what I'm fixing to say right now and let it sink down deep into your spirit.
GUARD YOUR ANOINTING!!!
GUARD YOUR SPIRIT!!!
DON'T PLAY GAMES WITH THE HOLYGHOST!!!
HE IS SENSATIVE TO ALL YOU ALLOW AROUND YOU AND IN YOU.
DON'T TAKE LIGHTLY THE ANOINTING AND FAVOR THAT GOD HAS BLESSED YOU WITH.
Now you may be reading this message today and you may have failed God many times, but can I tell you today, that even David failed God many times, but he also was never ashamed to fall on his knees and say God I'm sorry, I have failed you, I have sinned or I have been disobediant, or I have murdered.
You might say I've never murdered anyone, but how many times have we murdered with our tongue, how many times have we allowed jealousy to cause us to tear down our brother instead of lifting them up.
Don't think that we can lie on one another, tear down one another, or live disrespectful of God's Holy Anointing, and think God is going to bestow His favor on us, NO He will withdraw His favor just like He did with Saul, but when we come to the place that David had to come to many times, when He realized that God's presence, and His precious anointing upon him were the most important things in His life, he didn't care about riches, he could have cared less about what poeple thought about him, all he knew was that " he would lay down his kingly robe, just lay it all down, and all it represented, and dance before the Lord with all of his might " for I believe that David knew and understood
that God's anointing and God's favor upon his life was his treasure, it was all that meant anything to him.
Did you know that the Anointing of God upon you can be so strong that in your presence even those who are your enemies, and who have plotted against you to do you harm can be touched and feel the power of God in your life.
Look at this:
18 When David had fled and made his escape, he went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went to Naioth and stayed there. 19 Word came to Saul: “David is in Naioth at Ramah”; 20 so he sent men to capture him. But when they saw a group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came on Saul’s men, and they also prophesied. 21 Saul was told about it, and he sent more men, and they prophesied too. Saul sent men a third time, and they also prophesied. 22 Finally, he himself left for Ramah and went to the great cistern at Seku. And he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?”
“Over in Naioth at Ramah,” they said.
23 So Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth. 24 He stripped off his garments, and he too prophesied in Samuel’s presence. He lay naked all that day and all that night. This is why people say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
There are two things I want to point out about what happened here.
1. God supernaturally sent His presence upon Samuel and His presence became the protector of His Anointed.
2. The Anointing of God here was so powerful that even Saul who the bible says was troubled by evil spirits, who's heart was filled with hatred, jealousy, and murder against David was overcome by the Anointing and began to prophesy.
Now I said all of that to say this:
If you keep guard over your heart and your anointing, and truly seek to walk in the place God has called you to, If we can truly understand that:
God's power and presence in our lives today have yet to be manifested, because we have yet to enter into all God has for us, mostly because we do not guard and protect what God has trusted us with thus far, and many of us have not yet come to the place of desperation and hunger that will lead us to this place in God because we are living in such complacency in the Spirit.
You see we can look here at the life of David and I believe that every one of us can see ourselves in some form or fashion, and I hope to encourage you today that no matter where you find yourself in standing with God's promise's, purpose or destiny for you, I hope that you will see that whether you are still tending sheep in the field of preparation or you are standing in God's favor in the palace, or anywhere in between, there is still yet a place of Glory in the presence of God to be manifested in us.
Oh how I long for the Holy manifestation of God's presence to overshadow us today, Lord let us hunger and thirst for more of your power and presence in our lives, that all of those around us would somehow be touched by you in all of your Glory and Splendor.
