Tenacious – Meaning:
1. To cling to, like an adhesive
2. Unwilling to yield or give up
3. Holding together; cohesive
4. Having a good memory; retentive
Let’s take a closer look at how we can break this down,
To help us take in what it means to be tenacious for Jesus.
When I think about how we as Christians can adapt this one strength into our daily walk with Christ it allows me to understand my need is to cling closely to Him, with the holy spirit acting as the adhesive that bonds me closely to projected purpose of my savior.
Holding on tightly, not willing to give up or let go………………
These words describe my faith in action….the action has to be my total desire to serve Him faithfully no matter what may come my way to deter me or throw me off course.
In studying this word “ tenacious “ I found that there are a lot of ships with this name…because of the meaning; staying on course, not ever lost, holding together, cohesive, adaptable to the waves of the seas….let’s think about that for just a moment.
When a ship sets sail for the high seas, it does not ever know it’s destiny because the waves of the sea and the waters of the oceans are always unpredictable. One wave may just be a 4 ft hurdle then the next one may be an 8 ft, then a 2ft. or a 20ft, the waters of the sea are constantly beating against the bow of the ship as it becomes a constant struggle to move forward.
But “ Tenacity “ says I will move forward, I will hold on, I will not give up, I will hold myself together, I will fight against the waves that are trying to take me under but I will not yield myself to the destruction of the sea.
1 Corinthians 15;58 says:
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain
1 Corinthians 16;13 says :
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; and be strong, do everything in love.
2 Corinthians 4;7
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels to show that this all-surpassing power is from God, and not from us.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed, perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4;17
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
Take strength and courage in knowing that Jesus is also
“ Tenacious “ for you.
Look at the prayer Jesus prayed in John chapter 17.
Let’s look at some highlights:
I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do. 17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. 19 And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.
20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. 24 Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!
25 “O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. 26 I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.”
Jesus is “ Tenacious “ for you…holding on to you, never letting you go, even in times when you feel like giving up.
He is setting you apart, He has called you by name from the foundations of the world, you had purpose in Him.
Let this be your strength that carries you in times of weakness, knowing that Jesus Himself has prayed to the Father, to protect you and bring you to completion in Him.
I hear Him saying to you today: My child, every situation
You are faced with, I am in control. Don’t question your circumstances, don’t look at them through the natural, physical world, for my concern is to develop in you the spiritual virtues that will take your eyes off of your problems and allow your true faith to be launched and cause you to move forward in me.
Just like that ship that is launched in the midst of the deepest sea, not knowing the height nor depth of the waves it must endure, so will I increase in you the tenacity to hold fast, never give up, be completely adhered to my side.
Be strong, unwavering, and hold fast to the promises I have given you in My word.
For I am your Anchor…Strong….and….Unmovable…………….
