25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” He said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. “You of little faith, He said, “why did you doubt?”
As Peter steps out on that water, He becomes a great
example of someone walking in great faith.
Think about it!!! It took a tremendous amount of faith for Peter first of all to say, Lord bid me come, and then
an even greater extension of faith to step out of the
boat.
So many times we focus on Peter's cry for help that
we forget Peter did actually walk on water.
We overlook the fact that there were other disciples
in that boat, and at any time they could have ask
the same thing of the Lord.
Here's the key...Peter believed in Jesus...He believed in Jesus so much that he stepped beyond human comprehension, out of the boundaries of what is humanly possible to man, and believed He could walk on water.
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Now Peter walked on water until he got his eyes off
Jesus and it was the winds and the storms around him
that began to cause him to be afraid.
How many times have we allowed the same thing to
happen to us?
We allow our eyes to see the situation around us instead
of the God that is upholding us.
When the storms of life are weighing us down, we have to know and understand that Jesus can still come walking on the water...
And sometimes it may require our faith to step out of the safety of the boat, out of the natural and into the
supernatural. and we have to understand that even when we do have the faith to step out, we are still going to be in the midst of the storm, but we must not let
the storm make us fearful or afraid, We have to still believe that Jesus is with us, and He is still in control.
You see as Peter allowed fear to come upon him, his confidence began to diminish,as his confidence diminished his competence sank right down in that water with him.
Fear not only destroys our faith in God but also it destroys our ability to believe in ourselves, and the ability to move forward into God's purpose and destiny for our lives.
Here's another key: he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Even in his time of weakness of faith, Peter cried out unto the Lord for help!!!! And the bibles says :
31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. “You of little faith, He said, “why did you doubt?”
It is so true, we all at times have been afraid and we have allowed that fear to stop us, and hold us back.
But as Peter's first response when he realized he had
stepped out into a place beyond all of his own capabilities, was to call on Jesus, and the bible says
immediatly Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.
1 Corinthians 15:57
Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
And He's speaking to us today:
O my child, have I ever failed you?
Have I not been your refuge and your strong defense?
Why are you continually afraid?
DO NOT FEAR!!!!!
My purpose will be fulfilled in spite of all of your weaknesses and failures, if in your time of need you
always rely upon me. Regardless of all the flaws that the storms of this life have revealed, if you count on the power of my strength and my abilities I will make you an overcomer in the midst of the storm.
For my child, I glory in over ruling the prevailing storms around you.
I take pleasure in bringing victory out of defeat.
I smile when I see you walking on the waters of life,
with the storms raging around you, and still your eyes are on me, It's my joy to surround you with great purpose and destiny for I hear your heart screaming!!!
I STILL BELIEVE !!!!
