Apostacy In The Church Part I
Jesus prayed a prayer that would cover from generation to generation.
It's one of my favorite passages of scripture.
I wanted to bring this prayer to you today because I believe if we have ever needed it to come to life in our hearts we need to today.
This message is extremely hard for me to write, as a matter of fact I have been putting it off for months now, but through the continual prompting of the Holy Spirit and recently unfolding events I knew it was time.
Why? Because harvest is taking place, there is a shifting and sifting that is about to take place and it will start in the body of Christ.
The church has become filled with Apostasy and rebellion to God, His Spirit and His Word. But as you can see when you read Jesus's prayer in John 17, there is a remnant that will arise, for He has kept them, and He will empower them, and they will usher in one of the greatest outpourings this world has ever seen.
John 17
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Now, in the book of Revelation, chapters 2 and 3, the Apostle John records seven letters of Jesus to seven churches in the area of modern day Turkey. Among other things, these letters present a prophetic survey of the Church in history. The last church he mentions, the one that represents the Church of the end times, is the church at Laodicea. It is pictured as a church that is neither hot (healing) nor cold (refreshing), but rather is lukewarm or tepid (Revelation 3:15-16).
Instead, it is a church that is apathetic.
Jesus also pictures it as a worldly church full of pride and wealth (Revelation 3:17).
The Lord is so dissatisfied with this church that He
declares, “Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16).
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Paul also gives us some strong clues as to why the end times Church will be weak, and full of apostasy.
One of the clues can be found in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 which says that " the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers who will teach them only what they want to hear; and because of this it will turn away their ears from the truth, and they will turn aside to myths.”
Another powerful scripture that declares the state of the end time church is found in 2 Timothy chapter 3.
After describing in detail how society as a whole will fall apart in the end times, He also adds that the basic reason will be “ having a form of godliness, but they will deny its power ” (2 Timothy 3:5)
They will talk about it, but it will not be active in the church, because the church will be laiden with sin and idolatry, and rebellion to the Word of God.
There will be no lack of religion, as a matter of fact the world is full of religion but people are not actively demonstrating the true power that is able to transform us to children that are producing a Godly change that produces true holiness in peace, righteousness and true Godly wisdom and judgement.
What is that tranforming power?
First and foremost it is the power of the blood of Jesus. It is also the power that comes from accepting the Bible as the infallible Word of God.
It is the power of believing in a Creator God with whom all things are possible. And certainly it includes a belief in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring true salvation, healing and deliverance, and the ability to walk out Godly living.
Today, these essential beliefs, are being erdicated from within the Church itself.
What is Apostacy?
Apostasy; the abandonment or renunciation of a religous or politcal belief. Faithlessness, disloyalty, desertion, defection and heresy.
Apostasy is the act or state of standing away from something (or someone) that you used to stand with. Most frequently, apostasy refers to the total rejection of a belief system that you used to stand for.
Let's see how it is described in 2 Timothy chapter 3.
2 Timothy
3 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
A rebellion of Sin and Ungodly living has invaded the church. People's hearts have become hardened to to true Word of God. We are living in a generation who has sat under the preaching and teaching of God's word most all of their life, but still they walk out of every service and like a dog returning to his vomit, without any conviction, walk back into their sinful lifestyles, with no remorse.
My friends we are living in dangerous times spiritually, and it is literally breaking the heart of God, that so many have gone astray, giving heed to seducing lies from the enemy telling them they have plenty of time to make things right. Listen, none of us are promised tomorrow.......
The time is now.....move while the spirit is beckoning your heart.
Book Of Jude
1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen!!!
In the book of Jude, he tells us to earnestly contend for the faith, He also brings out the condition of the last day church and gives us complete and clear directions to hold on to.
Warning us not to fall into self worship by giving in to sinful lusts and desires, but to build ourselves up in the faith and to encourage one another in the love and compassion of Christ.
Walking in and being led by the Holy Spirit, who will keep us, lead us, and guide us into all truth, and will make known to us the crafty lies of the enemy who is out to kill, steel, and destroy our relationship with God.
If ever there was a time that we need to re-evaluate our walk with God, and seek Him to help us lay aside every weight and every sin, open our ears and our hearts to receive His word that time is now.
My friend if you think you can continue to walk in your sinful ways, and continue to sit in God's house service after service and walk right out of His house and go right back to your sin, you are sadly deceived, God is not mocked, and He will surely withdraw His spirit from you.
We are in the midst of the greatest spiritual warfare known to man, because the devil knows His time is short.
Let's take a look at what Jesus had to say to His disciples in 1 John.
1John
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
We are living in the time of harvest, let me encourage you today, please don't wait to make things right with Jesus, He loves you with a never ending love.
But His love will not save you if you continue to walk in rebellion to Him and His Word.
He has already given the ultimate sacrifice, His precious Blood on that cross at calvary.
He has not brought His word to condemn, but He has brought His word and shed His blood to make you free, He stands ready to deliver you from the bondages of your sin if you will come into complete surrender to Him.
His mercy has already been extended to you time and time again. He has covered you in His grace and kept you when the enemy desired to sift you as wheat.
It has been His faithfulness to you that He has extended time and time again, now won't you answer His clarion call to your heart today and
Run to the Father..... Fall In His Grace, Be done with the hiding, there's no reason to wait, your heart needs a surgeon, your soul needs a friend, Run To The Father, Again.
His love and mercy is filling your heart even now as you acknowledge the truth of these words you are reading, and you know He is there.
Nothing else in your life matters right now except will you surrender to His call, He will not leave you in the same condition in which He found you, but He will make a way when there seemeth to be no way, He will open water in the deserts, and He will make all of your crooked paths straight.
Can you trust Him to do that for you right now?
Surrender it all to Him and Lay it at His feet today, He is a loving and faithful God and He will prove Himself faithful to you.
You may have had nothing but let downs in life, continual set backs that have brought you to this place of hopelessness and despair but Jesus has never left you nor has He ever let you down.
Life in many ways can be brutal for us all, we all have faced our hurts and failures in many different ways, but we cannot turn away from the only faithful friend and Father that we have and that is Jesus Christ.
He is calling you back to Him, So RUN........................
