30 Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. 2 They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone.
3 When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families, 4 they wept until they could weep no more. 5 David’s two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel, were among those captured. 6 David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
7 Then he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring me the ephod!” So Abiathar brought it. 8 Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?”
And the Lord told him, “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!”
9 So David and his 600 men set out, and they came to the brook Besor. 10 But 200 of the men were too exhausted to cross the brook, so David continued the pursuit with 400 men.
11 Along the way they found an Egyptian man in a field and brought him to David. They gave him some bread to eat and water to drink. 12 They also gave him part of a fig cake and two clusters of raisins, for he hadn’t had anything to eat or drink for three days and nights. Before long his strength returned.
13 “To whom do you belong, and where do you come from?” David asked him.
“I am an Egyptian—the slave of an Amalekite,” he replied. “My master abandoned me three days ago because I was sick. 14 We were on our way back from raiding the Kerethites in the Negev, the territory of Judah, and the land of Caleb, and we had just burned Ziklag.”
15 “Will you lead me to this band of raiders?” David asked.
The young man replied, “If you take an oath in God’s name that you will not kill me or give me back to my master, then I will guide you to them.”
16 So he led David to them, and they found the Amalekites spread out across the fields, eating and drinking and dancing with joy because of the vast amount of plunder they had taken from the Philistines and the land of Judah. 17 David and his men rushed in among them and slaughtered them throughout that night and the entire next day until evening. None of the Amalekites escaped except 400 young men who fled on camels. 18 David got back everything the Amalekites had taken, and he rescued his two wives. 19 Nothing was missing: small or great, son or daughter, nor anything else that had been taken. David brought everything back. 20 He also recovered all the flocks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the other livestock. “This plunder belongs to David!” they said.
21 Then David returned to the brook Besor and met up with the 200 men who had been left behind because they were too exhausted to go with him. They went out to meet David and his men, and David greeted them joyfully. 22 But some evil troublemakers among David’s men said, “They didn’t go with us, so they can’t have any of the plunder we recovered. Give them their wives and children, and tell them to be gone.”
23 But David said, “No, my brothers! Don’t be selfish with what the Lord has given us. He has kept us safe and helped us defeat the band of raiders that attacked us. 24 Who will listen when you talk like this? We share and share alike—those who go to battle and those who guard the equipment.” 25 From then on David made this a decree and regulation for Israel, and it is still followed today.
1 Samuel 30:24 KJV
For who will hearken unto you in this matter? But as his part is that goeth down to battle, so shall his part be that tarieth by the stuff.
Now, the Bible says that David had 600 men but only 400 men were able to go in and face the enemy, because the other 200 men were faint and not able to cross the brook and to battle.
Now, I’m sure in times past that these 200 men were some of the kings most devout warriors, and had fought by his side and stood strong to win the battle many times.
Now, these 200 of the kings men had become faint and battle weary. They have been hit with the strongest blows from the enemy and also according to the bible had lost everything.
All the blessings God had given them in the past had now been stolen by the enemy. Once mighty warriors, who had fought and won many great battles have now found themselves stripped of all they had and no strength to go on anymore.
These men who had been so faithful to the king were brought down to their knees and had no more strength to fight.
Now the Bible says even though they did not go to battle they did stay behind and guard the “ Stuff “.
That means even though they were weak and could not seem to make it any farther than where they were and sure, the enemy had stolen everything they had, but still even in their darkest hour they began to search and seek out anything of value that the enemy had left behind.
They reached down deep for every ounce of Faith and every glimmer of Hope. They stopped and remembered every time they had come through each battle in victory, every single time God had been faithful to guide them and protect them, and God had met every need they had and brought them through every dark valley, and soon they could see the light shine forth as the noon day, and they felt the sweet peace of true victory.
As they continued to search, here they would find something and there they would find something, and everything they could pull together they guarded it as though it was wealth beyond measure, and before you know it they had found enough “ stuff “ to help them remember all they once had, and now all they had to do was guard it. Put it away for safe keeping because this would become their strength.
Sometimes we as Christians find ourselves in this very place.
Weak and battle weary, hurt and rejected, and it seems we just don’t have the strength to fight anymore.
Well let me encourage you today. You can still receive your blessing and your deliverance, all you have to do is “ guard the stuff “.
That means don’t lose sight of the times you won each and every battle in the past. Look and see how faithful God was and how he helped you through it. Every time he met a need, healed your body, sent you a word of encouragement when you were down, prophesied to you, delivered you, answered a prayer for you, just think about every time He came through for you, every touch of His Spirit, Every Blessing, now ladies and gentlemen that is “ your Stuff “.
And the best thing of all is that God understands when all your strength is gone and all you can do is “ guard the stuff “.
My God is so faithful that He will still turn around and Bless you.
He will have mercy on you and He will keep no good thing from you. As a matter of fact in all His goodness and mercy He will bless in the end equal to those who fought the battle if you will continue to “ guard the stuff “.
Now, you might ask what does that mean? Well my friend, it means that when you feel like the enemy has stolen all you ever had, and you have exhausted all your means to get through whatever situation you might be facing, just stop, take a moment to reflect upon all God has done for you and where He has brought you from and then Thank Him for all He’s done in your life, and most important, trust Him….
He will never let you down, even in times when you feel like the heavens are closed up and you feel so far away from where you long to be, God in all His Glory will reach down and touch you, and minister to you, His love in never ending.
And according to His word, the enemy will have to restore back to you all he has taken and not only what he took, but more…..
God has a blessing waiting on you… Now is not the time to give up but now is the time to hold on in faith and believe again….
Just believe again…….
For God is not a man that He should lie, and throughout eons of time has proven FAITHFUL!!!
And He will not fail you!!
On the Contrary, even when you feel like you have
failed Him, He will still stand by you, so if you fall,
just get right back up and keep trying, In our weakness He is made Strong, He will be the powerful source you need to carry you through!!!!
